Should a campaigning group be allowed to give money to an All-Party Parliamentary Group that is looking at the subject that the group is campaigning on?
If not illegal, it certainly gives the impression that MP’s opinions are for sale.
The anti-Brexit group Best for Britain, in part funded by George Soros’s Open Society Foundation, has reportedly given the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on EU Relations “secretariat support” worth up to £21,000.
I am sure that they will come up with some very good sounding reasoning behind this gift, but you don’t give £21,000 for nothing.
The purpose of the APPG on EU Relations is “to promote a positive and progressive relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union following the outcome of the EU Referendum.” The stated aim of Best for Britain, (the campaign name for UK-EU Open Policy Ltd.) is to “To Stop Brexit!”
That feels to me like there is a conflict of interest.
