In October 2013 Tommy Robinson and the EDL’s deputy leader Kevin Carroll to announce that they had left the EDL.

Robinson said that he had been considering leaving for a long time because of concerns over the “dangers of far-right extremism”.

Robinson said: “I acknowledge the dangers of far-right extremism and the ongoing need to counter Islamist ideology not with violence but with better, democratic ideas”.
